Silvio

Silvio is a feature film that tells the surprising story of how Sílvio Santos, one of the great icons of Brazilian communication, fulfilled his dream of dominating all the existing TV sets in the country. In August 2001, Sílvio is held hostage in his home by Fernando Dutra Pinto, the same kidnapper who, hours earlier, freed his daughter Patrícia from a week-long captivity. Fernando, being chased by the Civil Police, believes that Silvio can provide the security and resources for a cinematic escape. Silvio, still shaken by Patrícia’s kidnapping, just wanted to talk to Cinthia, his other daughter, the first born, who he hadn’t had the courage to call before. This regret joins others when Sílvio retells his life story to Fernando. Fiction and reality mix in a narrative about resilience, victories, doubts and mistakes that slowly finds a listener in Fernando, who connects with the fatherly fables told by the TV host. It was a way out – perhaps the only one – and Sílvio bets everything on it, he increases the metaphors and emotion while talking to Fernando in an attempt to gain the kidnapper’s trust and take control of the negotiations with the police, that was his only chance to end this episode of horror that invaded his home.
