Maximo & Confúcio

A pioneer among Brazilian TV family sitcoms, Daddy Knows Nothing (1962-1966) (Papai Sabe Nada) will have a spin-off at TV Cultura, produced by Moonshot Pictures, nearly 50 years after its end. Maximus and Confucius, created by Ricardo Côrte Real and Leonardo Cortez will, in 13 episodes, portray the fun yet tumultuous daily life of a middle-class family deep in financial crisis after the bankruptcy of their once-thriving company.

The story follows the downfall of Maximus Jacarandá (Ricardo Côrte Real), an optimistic entrepreneur and enthusiast of his own journey. Coming from humble beginnings, he managed to build a successful children’s goods business and raise a small empire. However, his lack of business skills led him to bankruptcy, forcing him to start over. To make matters worse, he realizes he cannot count on his son, Confucius (Leonardo Cortez), who, despite being in his 40s, behaves like a teenager and dreams of becoming a reggae singer.

The relationship between father and son, filled with humorous dialogues, is the core of this story, driven by equally irreverent characters, such as Dona Biloca Jacarandá (Patrícia Gasppar), Maximus’ wife and Confucius’ mother – a flamboyant woman who, for the first time in her life, is forced to work after her husband’s company shuts down. The cast also includes Robson Nunes, Daniel Dottori, Norival Rizzo, and Luisa Valente.
