Directed by Selton Mello, the series is mainly set in a psychoanalysis office and follows a therapist’s personal and professional daily life. In each episode of the narrative, viewers have the opportunity to follow the story of a new patient. From a married woman who loves too much to an alcoholic teenager or a businessman who cannot accept his sexual preference, everyone shares their doubts and anxieties in the hopes of finding an answer to their problems.
In the fifth season of In Treatment, family issues haunt Caio once again. We begin with him getting the news that his mother, a big ghost from his past, has passed away and left an inheritance. Caio doesn’t want to know or take part in any of it, but his sister Mariana insists. In addition, his brother Miguel wants to meet him, but Caio doesn’t, since he pictures his brother as a spoiled, irresponsible, self-centered guy who is also addicted to something very illicit. The subtext is that he is afraid of finding out that his brother is a nice guy and, worst of all, that he likes him.
Furthermore, Sofia has left for a course in New York and has not yet returned. Caio thinks he has fallen in love with her and that, unfortunately, their beginning was tortuous and that’s why he insists that she comes back, he wants another chance to start over, but Sofia doesn’t reconsider and doesn’t want him to look for her anymore. When Caio finds out she’s already found a new love, he will feel betrayed once again.
Without Sofia and with Theo, now much more of a friend than a therapist, Caio decides to look for a new professional to accompany him. After having seen several therapists, he decides to accept an old recommendation from Sofia: an unusual option, and that’s how Davi comes into the story.
With the pandemic, Caio had to adapt to seeing patients online. Many patients who worked on the front lines against the pandemic started therapy with him in a voluntary therapy group, so this is going to be the first time that Caio will personally meet the patients who are still seeing him, and this pro bono issue will bring conflicts. The value may be inestimable, but price can be measured.
Tony is a young adrenaline-addicted motorcycle courier who is more afraid of dying every day and inexplicably gets involved in seemingly suicidal situations. Manuela is a successful fashion designer who gave birth to her first daughter a few months ago and is unable to cope with motherhood. Lorena is a nurse who has become overwhelmed with non-stop shifts, is now about to retire and is unable to go inside the hospital to end the cycle. Giovana has struggled with her weight her entire life and in recent years her lack of control over her health has put her life at risk. Davi is an eccentric therapist with an approach that mixes many references, but his specialty is the child within the adult.
This fifth season of In Treatment is permeated by a theme that unites all patients: Life!
