171 – A FAMILY BUSINESS

Diógenes, a hardworking and honest man who legitimizes his straight-laced existence as a bank manager, strives to be living proof that the saying “like father, like son” is nothing more than a big lie. This certainty remains unshakable until his father, Moreira, an old-school con artist who has been missing for ten years, suddenly resurfaces, determined to reclaim his place in the family.

In 171, we follow Moreira as he, concerned about his legacy, attempts to revive his old gang of swindlers from the Mooca neighborhood while also trying to lure his family into his “art”. After all, according to him: “A conman alone is just an idiot trying to get ahead.” This sparks a fierce battle with his son, which escalates when Moreira becomes the idol for his grandson, Chicão. As Diógenes struggles against his father’s influence, he finds himself confronting the very principles he built his life upon, realizing that his swindler DNA may be a deeper part of him than he ever imagined.
